I Found A Treasure!

And I want to share the gifts I found inside with you!

I was looking in a box yesterday morning before work and found this box that belonged to my Grandma Bell.

The words carved into the top say "God's Gifts".

And inside this box are little "gifts", words of wisdom printed on small 1" X 3" cards. On the back of each card is a scripture reference for each piece of wisdom.

When I found the box, I placed it in my purse and headed out to work. As soon as I got there I opened the box and took out the card in front which read:

"Thank you, God, for people who help with no thought of recognition or reward. Help me to be one of those people."

Have you ever worked with someone who seems to always announce all the "above and beyond" things they have done? I have/do/and will work with people like this. It's just one of things you expect. Their efforts seem to be in the spotlight and make the rest of the team's work seem less significant. It can be frustrating. But I know that if my intentions are not for the attention and public recognition I would receive, then I know that, in time, my hard work will pay off and my rewards will be great.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. ~ Galatians 6:9

When you are faced with someone who might seem to sabotage your efforts, whether at work, or even a friend or family member, to make their (so-called) good deeds shine... just remember that if you do what you do out of the goodness of your heart and not for the recognition it will bring you, then YOU will soon be outshining them.

Have you experienced something like this? Do you work with someone who strives to draw attention to themselves?

My Grandma, Virginia Bell. Thank you for sharing your box of wisdom, God's GIfts with me. I love and miss you!

  2. I agree with Ruth, above - super beautiful post. :) (I had a grandma Belle, too.)

I definitely work with several people that really want recognized for every little thing they do (even if it's just making it to work! haha!) I've found that the best thing to do is just work hard, help out, and sit back - people do appreciate you and will let you know! The best part about it is, aside from the compliments you may receive, you really helped make someone's day a little brighter, better, and/or easier. Great post! Have a great weekend!

  9. Wonderful post. And yes, I work with one or two people like that. This really encouraged me, as I had a disappointing week at work. I did not feel supported by co-workers at all. But I will keep on doing what I do, that God may be glorified.

  13. Thanks for all of your sweet comments. I am finding this to be a great day-starter. Reading & meditating on each little piece of wisdom and it's verse. I may even do a weekly post of God's Gifts of Wisdom. =)
